How to Write a Baby Shower Invitation

Every baby shower is different and the information you need to add is different, so we are going to point you in the right direction by giving you some tips on what to add:

1) Baby Shower in Honor of {Mother-To-Be Name, Couple's Name, or Baby's name if baby shower if after birth of baby.}

2) Date of the Baby Shower To make the baby shower fancier use the full date. Example: Tuesday, March 29, 2009 or The Twenty-Second Day of March Thousand and Nine.

3) Time the Baby Shower Begins. If it is a surprise shower, then ask guests to arrive about 30 minutes before Mom-to-Be arrives. It is also a good idea to let people know the approximate time that the party will end. This helps your guests to plan their day, plus the To-Be Mom may need her rest, so setting the time will allow pregnant Mom to not overdo.

4) Location of the Baby Shower. Even if you believe everyone knows by the name of the location where the baby shower is, it is good to add an address to be safe, or consider printing a map and including it in the baby shower invitation, especially if the shower is in a home in a housing subdivision or large complex where it is easy to get lost. You might know the area or visit the location often, but think of the guest who only goes there rarely. Another good idea is to add if there will be balloons or signs marking the location of the baby shower. When a baby shower is being held at home, balloons are often put on the mailbox. In the invitation, consider adding a note telling the guest to look for the balloon on the mailbox, yard sign, or other decoration you are using outside the baby shower location.

5) RSVP to Whom and Phone Number. The RSVP name is usually a hostess of the baby shower. It is good to note for the guest that it is ok to leave a message on voicemail. To help you and other hostess plan on how many supplies are needed, it is good to ask people to RSVP by a set date. This will also help the hostesses save money on buying supplies, although it is always best to have a few extra supplies in case extra people show up. Having an RSVP-by date will help with a hostess with a tight baby shower party planning budget.

6) If the Mom-To-Be has a gift registry set up, this should be mentioned in the invitation.

7) If the Mom-To-Be has a new baby nursery theme such as Noah's Ark or Winnie the Pooh, consider adding this to the invitation so people who want to buy nursery-related gifts can buy theme-related items. Example: For a Disney Baby nursery theme baby's room, a guest who is planning on buying crib sheets will know to buy Disney crib sheets.
