Clock Solitaire
Clock solitaire is a card game that teaches children the location of the various "o'clock" positions on the face of a clock. Once instructed, a child can play the game by him/herself.
To Begin Play:
Remove the jokers from a standard deck of cards.
Shuffle the cards. Place a card face down at the top of your “clock.” Deal one card to correspond to each number on the face of a clock, and one in the middle. Continue to deal cards around the circle and into the center until you have four cards in each stack, including the middle stack.
Begin by removing a card from the center stack. Look at the card and determine where to place it on the clock face. Numbered cards go to their corresponding position on the clock face. Jacks are considered 11 o’clock. Queens are considered 12 o’clock. Kings are placed in the center. After placing the first card face up under the pile in its corresponding place, pick up a card from that pile and place that card in its corresponding place on the clock face.
Play continues in the same manner until one of two things happen:
1) All cards have been uncovered on the clock face (you win); or
2) All four Kings’ cards have been placed in the center.
When first learning the game, you may instruct the child to place the card in view so that they can see their cards. As the child begins to get accustomed to where the cards belong on the clock face, have them hide their cards under the stack of face-down cards.
Clock solitaire is a fun and entertaining first step toward learning to tell time.
